COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS
Caring for Others
Fauquier County Quilters believes it's very important to give back to our community. We have done many community service projects. We've made quilts and donated them to Hope Heals and area hospitals. When the pandemic hit, we sewed several hundred surgical caps for medical students as well as staff at our local hospital. For our current service project, we are sewing pillowcases for the young oncology patients at Johns Hopkins Pediatric Oncology Center in Baltimore, MD. The first group of pillowcases was delivered in December and the children loved them so much that when FCQ asked if we could continue the project, Johns Hopkins was very grateful.
Another one of our community service projects that we are proud to be a part of is making dresses for young girls in Uganda, Africa. This program is a ministry of Warrenton Baptist Church. The church sewing ministry provides the supplies and we are happy to sew these dresses for the young girls. As an added gift for the girls, a cloth doll is made and dressed in the same fabric her dress is made from.
